about

Many people were involved with the band over its 5-year journey. Some are sadly no longer with us: Marcus O’Hagan was our first manager and dear friend—he even played our very first ad hoc gig supporting ClockDVA at NowSoc; Andrew Goodwin (The Professor of Pop) drummed uniquely through what was our most successful period, supporting the Icicle Works on a UK tour and routining songs with John Leckie for a prospective record deal with Cherry Red; and Dee Boyle, who played brilliantly on our last recordings and gigs and joined up with us again in 2000 for an emotional reunion show at the National Centre for Popular Music. All are greatly missed. They would have loved to see this. The band members over the years had a solid nucleus of the three of us involved in this rather overdue salvage operation: John Stuart, Bryan Hall and Andrew Henley. But Sim Lister (saxophone and trumpet), Steve Richmond (guitar), Ade Mahon (drums), Mark Tattersall (drums) Piers Storey (keyboards)and Dee Boyle made major contributions. Dave Rees (keyboards), Anne Loughlin (vocals), Ema (keyboards), Dave Bloom (drums) and Alan Cross (piano) also made briefer appearances. We were incredibly fortunate to work with Compass Theatre Company on three productions between 1981 and 1983,providing live soundtracks for Damocles, Edward II and Refugees. Neil Sissons, Nick Chadwick, Gill Laverick, Piers Storey and everyone else involved gave us an opportunity to experiment with our music and learn the best drinking games to go with the hot knives in Edinburgh tenement buildings.Making this available now is certainly an odd thing to do and we’re too old for it to be the result of a midlife crisis. But we all thought it was a pity not to make it public. Please do have a listen.

Vendino Pact Sheffield, UK

Angry young men. Psychedelic explorers. Post-punk architects of fragile deconstructions and shards of noise. Between 1979 and 1984 Sheffield’s Vendino Pact developed many new strains of their musical terrain. This compilation of the retrievable highs has been split into two time periods from the memories and dust created. The time is finally ripe to peel the fruits of those lost labours. ... more
